About

The Promenade Park maze was built in the 1990s and is a simple hedge maze that children will enjoy. At the centre is a sculpture, in the shape of a standing stone or obelisk, that is called the Singing Stone.

The massive stone monolith, over 2m tall,  has two holes in it, and when you place your head in the stone's hollow and hum different notes it is possible to find the note at which a natural resonance with your body occurs, and this causes a pleasant gently vibrating sensation throughout your body. The Singing Stone is carved from a natural piece of rock weighing several tonnes by German company Richter Spielgeräte.
