About

New Hall Vineyard is an English Wine Producer with around 50 hectares of vines and is one of the oldest and largest in the country. It was first established in 1969 by the Greenwood family, in the Essex village of Purleigh, and is now run by second and third generation.

The Cellar Shop offers a wide range of wines made from New Hall grapes, starting from £13.50 a bottle. These include Barons Lane White, a crisp, dry, fruit-driven white wine showing pear, grapefruit and lemon with notes of honeysuckle and English hedgerow on the nose; Barons Lane Red, full of black cherry and bramble fruit with a hint of red cherry and almond and Barons Rose, packed full of summer fruits, red apple, white peach with a slight creaminess and a tart balanced finish. There is also a Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, dessert wine and a range of sparkling wines produced using traditional methods. In some cases labels can be personalised.

The grape vines grown at New Hall were carefully selected and have been planted only 12m to 24m above sea level, on well-sheltered, southern facing slopes of a shallow valley. Over the years this site has proven itself to be an almost ideal place, for the growing of vines in England, producing, above average crops of high quality grapes with naturally high sugars, each year. New Hall lead the way in planting Bacchus in the early 1980s; they've now become East Anglia's signature grape variety and the source of many international wine competitions.

In 2013, 2015 and 2016 New Hall vineyard was awarded the UK's Winemaker of the Year, a great national achievement, and the estate's wines have continued to wine multiple prizes, with one of the latest being a LWC Silver Award in the London Wine Competition for its Single Estate Bacchus 2021.

Regular open days are held through the year, and private group tours are also available. The Cellar Shop is open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm (April to September) for tastings and purchasing. Self-guided 1km  tours around the vines are also available during these times.

For those who would like to have their own wine, from their own grapes, New Hall also runs a Leasing a Row of Vines scheme.
