The tidal causeway at Northey Island

About

This event is sold out but don't despair, join our waiting list to receive updates on more exciting opportunities about the Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival.

A rare opportunity to have a guided walk to Northey Island - a remote island in the Blackwater Estuary, which reputedly was once a Viking battlefield but is now a peaceful haven for wildlife. One of the highlights of this approximately 4.5-mile walk is that a National Trust guide will be on hand to show the work being carried out to improve the saltmarsh habitat on the island.

The Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival is a 10-day festival, designed to help visitors and locals enjoy the Maldon District's rich tapestry of history and heritage along its 75 miles of coastline. The event will provide led and self-guided walks to suit everyone, from family-friendly short strolls to longer walks for walking enthusiasts. Walks will start from a number of "hives" around the district, including Maldon, Heybridge Basin, Tollesbury, Goldhanger, Burnham-on-Crouch, Bradwell-on-Sea and North Fambridge. Plus, in the evenings there will be a programme of talks and entertainment.
