About

Burnham Ferry is the sole authorised ferry between Essex Marina, Wallasea Island and Burnham-on-Crouch. The Ferry runs 6 days a week from 1 April or Good Friday (whichever is the earlier) to the end of September. We are closed on Mondays, except for Bank Holidays. There are no fixed crossing times, the ferry runs on demand between 9:00 and 17:00, simply call 07704 060482 to cross.

The ferry allows for foot passengers and cyclists alike to cross the River Crouch to visit the many restaurants, bars, gift shops and cafés Burnham has to offer as well as lovely riverside walks and miles of cycling across the marshes. Birdwatchers, nature lovers, walkers and cyclists will be drawn to Wallasea Island where the RSPB is developing the Wallasea Wetland Project, the largest nature reserve of its type in Europe.

The road trip from Burnham to Wallasea Island by car takes approximately an hour; the ferry crosses the river in around ten minutes. The boat, a Searover 18 and equipment, is fully MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) approved and is used by many other ferry and commercial operators, however be aware it can be cold and wet!
