About

Northey is an island in the Blackwater Estuary in Essex, connected to the mainland by a causeway that is covered by the tide twice every day. It is a Site of special scientific interest with a large area of undisturbed Saltmarsh. It is also the site of the Battle of the Maldon in AD991 making it Britain's oldest recorded battlefield site. Access is free, but by advance permit only; please email northeyisland@nationaltrust.org.uk to arrange a visit.

There is no vehicular access and no parking is available on site, please park at Promenade Park (charges apply). There are no toilet facilities on the island. Dogs are permitted on short leads.

Northey House and out-buildings are let on a private lease and are not open to the public.
