SMUGGLING IN ESSEX: The Romance and Reality

The Trust in partnership with the Workers Education Association are holding a 3 hour course on the history of smuggling.

How do the popular representations of smuggling in novels, songs, poems, paintings and film match up to the reality? We will look at some of the enduring romantic depictions alongside official records to consider the reality of life for people up and down the Essex coast in the 18th century engaged in smuggling or the fight against it.

The course is being taken by Claire Parker and will be held at the Maldon Little Ship Club on Tuesday 8th October 2024 starting at 10:00 and finishing at 13:00.

The course costs £12.60 but if you are on means tested benefits then it is free.

The course has to be booked with the WEA.
