About

Thorogood's asparagus has a reputation for being some of the most delicious in the country, and each year there's a short season when you can buy the freshest possible asparagus straight from the farm.

The Thorogood family has been farming at New Moor for over 50 years, originally growing vegtables to supply the London fresh produce markets. When most farmers in the area turned to arable farming wheat or barley, in the late 80s Geoff Thorogood thought it would be a good idea to try and grow something different and with his son Pip planted the first asparagus bed. The operation is now run by Geoff's grandson, and the business has steadily grown to what it is now, supplying restaurants, farm shops and delis throughout Essex and London. Each weekend during the season they travel up to London to the farmers markets at Pimlico, South Kensington and Alexandra Palace.

Throughout the season staff pick the asparagus beds every day so the shop in the pack house is open everyday, so come down and get your asparagus direct from the farm. The exact times when the shop opens and closes are dependent on the weather and the growth of the asparagus, but expect to be able to visit from the end of April until early June each year.
