About

Situated right on the Blackwater Estuary, just outside Goldhanger, Lauriston Farm is a certified biodynamic farm, using a gentle and chemical-free way of farming.

The farm grows seasonal vegetables, which are available through a vegetable bag scheme, and rears Shetland cattle and North Ronaldsay sheep that graze on the sea meadow and salt marsh which gives a great taste to the beef and lamb. Chickens roam in the gardens, and fresh eggs are available to buy.

The farm, which is in an area of Special Scientific Interest, also works with local people with learning difficulties who learn new skills and enjoy the fresh air and satisfaction of working on the farm.

Fresh produce from Lauriston Farm is available through the vegetable bag scheme, delivered to doorsteps in CM9 postcodes on Thursdays, or can be collected from Whole Health Foods in Edwards Walk, Maldon or in Danbury or Chelmsford. There are three sizes available, starting from £16, along with free-range eggs at £3.20 for half a dozen. All crops are grown from certified biodynamic and organic seeds and are mainly older varieties which are less uniform but good in taste and are quite different from supermarket vegetables. The variety is based on what is grown on the farm such as lettuce, potatoes, leeks, garlic, broccoli, spinach, beetroot, carrots, beans, celery, pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines and much more. Some of the more unusual vegetables come with recipe suggestions.

To join the vegetable scheme, which runs from mid-June to the end of December, email the farm. Produce is delivered in organic cotton bags which are returned to be washed and reused. You will also find the vegetables on sale at local Farmers' Markets (see website for details).

The farm also sells meat from its Shetland cattle and rare breed sheep. This is available frozen and can be picked up from the farm - email for current price list and availability. Organic sheepskins and beautiful undyed yarn are also available.
